Submissions

Please contact a herald to assist you in the submissions process. They will have valuable experience that can help you avoid potential problems with your submission. If you can’t find a herald locally, please contact Red Flame Herald for a referral.

Submissions must be made using the official submission forms (see below) and include all necessary documentation.

Your submission must follow the Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory and the SCA College of Arms Administrative Handbook in order to be acceptable; failure to do so can cause your submission to be returned. An experienced herald will be able to walk you through these rules.

Costs

The cost of a heraldic submission is $10 CDN. A name and device are separate submissions and would therefore require $20 CDN payment. American Tir Righ citizens (Thornwold) may submit in USD, for the same $10 fee.

Paying with Paypal

Effective November 2024 we can take payments via Paypal invoices. Please email Silver Dove (silverdove@tirigh.org) your PDF forms and ask for a Paypal invoice to be sent to you.

The Paypal invoice will come from heraldpay@antir.org and will be in Canadian funds.

Paying with Cheques or Money Orders

Cheques or money orders must be made payable to the “Principality of Tir Righ”. Please do not send cash through the mail, and remember that Tir Righ Heralds (other than Silver Dove and Red Flame) are not warranted to handle money – do not pay your local herald.

Returns & Administrative Items

Should your submission be returned for any reason, you may resubmit any changes to your name or device free of further charge, providing the resubmission is done within 18 months of the date on the return letter.

Administrative items, such as heraldic wills and transfers, are free.  An heraldic will is an instruction to the College of Heralds as to what to do with your name/device(s) in the unfortunate case of your demise.  A transfer is just that – you are transferring one or more names or devices to another person, and it will now be theirs.

Colouring your badge or device

The College of Heralds has traditionally recommended colouring your device and badge submissions with Crayola Classic Markers; they are true to the heraldic tinctures and hold their colours well while being subjected to the heat, time, and humidity that comes with postal travel. Therefore, it will be less likely that your submission will be returned for the tinctures being unidentifiable.

Coloured pencils and crayons can melt and the dyes from inkjet printers can change colour significantly over the course of days or weeks. Colour laser printers are usually colour stable, however.

Submissions which cannot be scanned in clearly and true to colour may be returned. In particular, the most common problems are due to using any shade of grey for argent or sable, or anything leaning towards orange for Or.

Do not attach printouts of armoury images to the form with glue or tape. Ensure that the art is drawn directly on the form.

If you are using entirely digital art for an electronic resubmission, please ensure that you use clear, pure colours – the following are strongly recommended:

  • Argent (white): #FFFFFF or RGB (255, 255, 255)
  • Or (yellow): #FFFF00 or RGB (250, 250)
  • Azure (blue): #0000D6 or RGB (0, 0, 215)
  • Gules (red): #D60000 or RGB (215, 0, 0)
  • Vert (green): #00A400 or RGB (0, 165, 0)
  • Purpure (purple): #8912DD or RGB (137, 18, 221)
  • Sable (black): #00000 or RGB (0, 0, 0)
